Film Orchestrated: Halloween

Wed, 30th Oct 2024

Get ready for a frightfully good time at the Brixton Chamber Orchestra's "Film Orchestrated: Halloween" event. We're returning to the Ritzy Cinema for a thrilling double feature on October 30th.

BOOK YOUR TICKETS BELOW!

Experience the iconic silent film Nosferatu (1922), the first ever adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, with Hans Erdmann’s original soundtrack. This masterpiece of horror will come to life with a live 16-piece orchestra, performing the film's chilling score and sound effects in real time.

The performance will also feature a lively rendition of Disney's The Skeleton Dance from the 1929 Silly Symphonies cartoons. A beloved animated classic that has entertained audiences of all ages for nearly a century, this sequence features a group of dancing skeletons set to a lively and spooky jazz score.

This unforgettable event will also feature a newly commissioned horror short by local film-makers Alfred Wales and Noah Kean, complete with an semi-improvised soundtrack by the BCO…spooky.

Oh and every ticket comes with a free Brixton Brewery beer…hair-raising.

In recent years, a restored version of Nosferatu has been released, bringing the film back to its original glory. It is this hauntingly sharp version that will be screened at the Ritzy for this event. The film has had a profound influence on horror cinema and popular culture, inspiring countless other works. Count Orlok, the vampire protagonist, is one of the most iconic and terrifying villains in film history. His rat-like appearance and unnatural movements have inspired the vampire characters we recognise today.

FOR FAMILIES - Don't miss our children’s matinee, perfect for the half-term break, starting at 2:30pm.

Our children's matinee will feature an audience sing-along, close-up views of our orchestra (especially the percussion section, which plays a crucial role in creating the spooky atmosphere), and plenty of surprise, laughter, music, and visual storytelling.

Nosferatu is rated PG. We deem this event suitable for children aged 10+
