Brixton Performs Festival Concert

Sat, 16th Mar 2024

Concert @ 7:30pm
Brixton Recreation Centre, 3G Football Pitch

Led by Dermot Crehan
Conducted by Matthew O’Keeffe

On March 16th, as part of the Brixton Performs Festival we’ll be performing a concert on the Recreation Centre's 3G football pitch. We’ll start with Rossini’s "La Cenerentola" Overture, then play the thrilling but rarely-heard "Symphony in D major" by another Italian, Luigi Cherubini. Being St Patrick’s Day weekend, and to celebrate the contribution from the large Irish community in Lambeth, the second half will be a selection of traditional Irish music, including folk songs, reels and jigs. We’re delighted that the concert will be led by renowned fiddle player Dermot Crehan. Dermot is internationally recognised as a leader in traditional Irish music, and has been a member of some of the best orchestras in the UK - and he happens to be a Brixton local!

We'll be holding an open rehearsal at the 3G football pitch from 3-6pm on the 16th. Come and witness firsthand how orchestra practices work! Please note, we kindly ask for silence during the rehearsal.

This event is ticketed, but there is no cost to the ticket. Please reserve in advance to secure a good seat. Entry may also be available at the door, subject to seat availability.

It costs a lot of money to be able to offer concerts like this, and funding never quite covers it. So, please give us a donation if you can - it really does make all the difference!
